Nigeria’s High Commissiner to the United kingdom, Alhaji Tafida has hinted that soon, the Embassy would embark on home visits services for the elderly and disabled.

All disabled citizen who are seeking for passport renewal or visa applications would enjoy the privilege of being served at home and such services would be rendered free of charge.

Alhaji Tafida was a guest of TV presenter, Kayode Akintemi recently in London.

According to the Ambassador, the Embassy was aware of the plight and the agonies many less endowed Nigerians pass through while seeking the embassy’s services  and therefore would be extending  such privileges to their doorsteps.

“Services would be taken to the doorstep of those people because of their circumstances”, the Ambassador said..

He attributed the current overcrowding at the embassy to staff shortage and cut in budget by home government as the economic downturn took a turn on all Embassies budgets.

He said the Embassy has applied for mobile machinery that would facilitate home visit to hundreds of such citizens particularly  physically incapacitated and elderly people who are too fragile to embark on long distant journey to the Embassy.

He was at the studio of the Television station for a live broadcast in which many Nigerians were given the opportunity of calling live to the station while the Ambassador answered their questions live.

According to Alhaji Tafida, the Embassy operates an open door policy  and therefore said all Nigerians are welcome to get their requiresd

services without any hindrances.

There had been fears of unrealistic deadline  as all Nigerians are required to change their International passports by December 31, 2010.

Situation at the Embassy has warranted a major review of the deadline as, with the Embassy having commenced the renewal and review services, only 100 visitors are attended to everyday and there are estimated over one million Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
