Baba Sala: Celebrating the biggest name in the nation’s comedy scene
Moses Olaiya Adejumo a.k.a. Baba Sala, recently had his name written in gold as he was celebrated recently by fellow new generation comedians and jesters in the most outstanding style and uniqueness which befits a real comedy colossus.
Lamidi Sanni( and that is his stage name ) resurrected after almost three two decades in the oblivion recently in a tell tale newspaper scoop where he relayed his life story of a dramatic downturn following the handwork of man.
His story was moving that many are now rallying round to bring him back to his old self.
He relayed recently his life history and the tragedy that sent him off the scene explaining how trusted friends duped him and turned his life for the worse in the most intriguing and sensational sabotaging story , such that could have sent many to the world beyond abruptly.
Remember how his popular film Orun Mooru was pirated and released to the market by saboteurs during the film editind.?
His agility and strong-will saw him through and once again, he is bouncing back in the most dramatic style.
He was hosted to a special event recently in Lagos organised to recharge him back to life in Comedy-lane by well wishers.
Sunday, 30 May, 2010 at Oriental Hotel, Lagos was a memorable day as Babasal;a proved he is still as constant as the stars and very much on line in the yahooze new world.
The event was a special programme organised in his honour by Laffmataz magazine published by the popular stand-up comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka the first.
The ceremony, which was attended by the likes of Ali Baba, Julius Agwu, Kenny ‘Keke’ Ogungbe, Olu and Joke Jacobs, Sola Fosudo and others, saw prominent and upcoming stars paying homage to the Awada veteran side by side performing.
One of the high points of the event was when Adeyinka came on stage to ask his friends and colleagues to support Baba Sala financially and at the end of the fund raising, the 74-year old comedian went home with N1.050 million and a promise by the organisers and those present to support him with a monthly stipend of N100,000.
Apart from the cash donation, a birthday cake was presented to him which he relished with style.
Some of the donors were Bisoye Fagade, Kingsley James, Kenny Ogungbe, Patience, Ali Baba’s wife, who played a very prominent role in the fund raising, Sola Fajobi, Executive Producer, Next Movie Stars, Tea, Teju Baby Face, Femi Davies and others.
An elated Baba Sala thanked Gbenga Adeyinka, the Laffmataz crew and those present for the honour and donation.
Jayone,( Baba Sala Jnr) and others performed at the event.
