Akwa Ibom steals the show at Nigeria Arise Award as the world celebrate nation’s 50th anniversary
Akwa Ibom State has taken a huge share of credit in this year’s version of ‘The Nigeria Arise Merit and recognition Awards’ which took place in London last weekend.
The event venue, Sattavis Patidar Centre, in Forty Avenue received a huge assemblage of African dignitaries and many Friends of Nigeria who came to celebrate with Nigeria at 50, as the occasion dished out awards to loyal citizens who had excelled in their various areas of endeavour thereby contributing to the nation’s 50th year Independence anniversary celebration.
Akwa Ibom State took the centre stage on the award night as the state was full of praises for high achievements under Governor Goodwill Akpabio.
It was a night of admiration, high rating and passed vote of confidence as all the attending cross section of Nigerians in the Diaspora and friends of Nigeria drawn from almost every part of the world showered praises to acknowledge the governor’s achievements.
It was a night full of funs, cultural displays and business networking with various side attractions to add more to the activities of the night.
But a missing gap was the non -appearance of Information Minister, Dora Akunyili, who had been expected to bring the government presence but instead had led a Federal government delegate to attend an African Award night in Central London on the same day.
In her message conveyed to the gathering, she had called on all Nigerians in the Diaspora to think Nigeria first and contribute to the nation’s new era of breakthrough and political development.
Her message had been conveyed through an official of the Information Ministry as Minister, Dora Akunyili in the company of Hon Abike Dabiri –Erewa and Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Alhaji Dalhatu Tafida had been special guests at the African Leadership Award night in Central London where they had been honoured for selfless leadership roles in Africa.
The Nigeria award night however was however well attended with the presence of many important dignitaries both from the Nigeria Media circle, entertainment and government circles. Many Senators and EFCC top officials were in attendance.
Bisi Olatilo, the top Media guru and eloquent presenter was handy to show add glamour to the night with his occasional pairing as the host of the night while Kenny Ogubgbe and his pair brother, Aloy Agu and many more from the entertainment cicle graced the occasion.
Encomiums were showered, and rousing applaud rented the air as songs and traditional drums roared through the venue with African step dances dotting the night.
The award venue, the prestigious Sattavis Patidar Centre, in Forty Avenue in Wembley Park, North-West London however was in full capacity as well over 500 guests assembled to celebrate the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary with awards of excellence to deserving citizens who have excelled in their various areas of endeavours.
Emblems of Akwa Ibom dotted the arena as a self -styled solidarity Organisation called Friends of Governor Goodwill Akpabio gathered to adore the governor deserved honours and recognition to the admiration of the guests.
“Today , we celebrate the achievement and contributions of our compatriots in the task of nation building”, Alistair Soyode,the Award motivator and chief executive of Ben Television, London said in his welcome address.
He continued:“This auspicious occasion is so unique that it comes at a time when Nigeria is celebrating her Golden jubilee since its emancipation from British Colonial rule. We are 50year old”.
Dr Soyode added:“Permit me to reflect on the lofty ideas of Nigeria founding fathers, the men and women who made sacrifices to bring about a society where it’s citizens will live in harmony, realise their set goals, entrench a progressive system and join humanity for a better world”, adding “ Today, we recognise Nigeria’s distinguished sons and daughters, friends of Nigeria who have arisen and made marks in their various field of endeavours. The spirit of patriotism for nationhood cannot be over emphasized”
“We call on all Nigerians to be very proud of our heritage, to be conscious of our unique responsibilities in ntional development and on our image in the committee e of nations”.
Collective, we build or criticise, but the biggest winner will be those who that arise for the betterment of our society and those who create the change desired”
Among the recipients of this year’s award were Afolabi Andu, Alex Duduyemi, Christian Udechukwu andPrince Martins Orjie
Dora Akunyili, Nigeria’s Information Minister, Abike Dabiri- Erewa, High Commissioner, Dr Dalhitu Tafida and Farida Waziri were among the recipients of this year’s award.
Bisi Olatilo,Kenny Ogungbe and ALhaji Barmanga Tukur were other recipients.
