After a third divorce, a 50-year-old man (names withheld), attempted suicide in Abuja, yesterday, by taking  acid which he claimed he bought from a neighbouring battery charger.

Sunday Vanguard findings revealed that the wife left him two months ago.

Investigations showed that the man left his Water Board Road, Byazhin, Kubwa residence in Abuja for an hotel in the vicinity and booked for a four-hour accommodation which the hotel obliged him but not without suspicion that arouse the curiosity of the wife of the hotelier.

The wife of the hotelier, who accompanied the man to the hospital, gave vivid information about the man. She said,

“The man came to our hotel this morning and requested for four hours accommodation for which we billed him and he paid, but I was not comfortable with his behaviour because everything that we often offered new customers were turned down by him hence l became more suspicious of him.

‘’I monitored him close to his room and just when I turned my back to go away, I heard a loud sound from his room. I quickly called my staff to force the door open which they did and we saw him writhing in pain and we rushed him to the hospital.”

According to her , “If not for my curiosity, the man would have died in the hotel room within the four hours after his time in the hotel and payment expired but God was on our side because we took him to the hospital alive whilst he was still breathing and could still mutter some words and l have witnesses to that.”

Furthermore, Sunday  Vanguard learnt of a suicide note the man handed over to a worker of the hotel, titled, “Complaint about unnecessary threat of court summons by (names withheld) of Upper Sharia Court, Kofar Kudu, Kano” and addressed to a Grand Khadi in Kano. It reads, “I write to you Sir, most humbly, most respectively and most sincerely to seek for your protection from unnecessary threat of court summons by the above-mentioned Khadi of the above-mentioned court against my person.”

The letter dated December 30, 2010 states, “I am a retired Chief Architect of the Federal Housing Authority of the age of around 50 years. I have been residing in Abuja since 1986 (24 years). About three weeks ago, one Hajia Jahun phoned my wife and told her over the phone that she (Hajia Jahun) will file a suit against my person about a simple trivial matter that could be discussed and settled in a family meeting.”

The alleged wife for whom the man attempted suicide was at the hospital as at the time the man was in the emergency room with her two kids crying and waling over her ex-husband’s suicide mission.
