Ace cartoonist, Muyiwa Collins dies of heart failure at 49
Creative fine artist and ace cartoonist, Muyiwa Collins is dead. He died of Heart Failure at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) at the age of 49.
Until his death, Otunba Collins was People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Youths Leader. He was an all round political activist.
The no –nonsense National youth leader was reported to have been reclusive due to his heart condition for some time having been seen on activity back in last year November.
He has been reported as having an history of Heart problems and has been down with pre-existing heart and kidney condition for some time.
Mr. Collins was an acolyte of jailed PDP leader, Chief Bode George and one of the supporters of Abubakar Atiku.
He is survived by one wife and four children, including a one-month old. His remains have been moved to a morgue in Agege, Lagos.

Otunba Muyiwa Solanke Collins, the National Youth Leader was born in Lagos State on December 25th 1961.
A proud holder of two Advanced Diploma in Journalism and Animation respectively, Otunba Muyiwa Collins attended Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria institute of Journalism, Lagos and International School of Animation.
He is a member of the Nigeria union of Journalism, NUJ, International Press institute and Cartoonist Association of Nigeria.
Between 1982 and 1998, Otunba Collins held the following positions, Senior Editorial Cartoon in Punch Newspapers, Cartoon Editor/member, Editorial Conference, Tribune Newspapers, Cartoon/OP/ED/ Editor Republic Newspapers; Cartoon Editor/Member Editorial Conference, Champion Newspapers.
For several years. Mr Collins was the author of the popular OMOBA satirical cartoon column on the back page of Punch Newspapers.
He was amiable witty and a very well refined cartoonist who ever remained self convincing in all his conceived ideologies. He was a very close colleague of this writer on the list of Punch Newspaper’s Editorial staff in early and up to late eighties.
On the political adventure, he led difference positions in the following parties, Assistant Organizing Secretary UPN, Member Publicity Committee NRC, Lagos State. Publicity Secretary South West zone PDP.
He was also Assistant Director Publicity at the National Secretariat of the Party between 2000 and 2007. Otunba Muyiwa Collins had also served as a shadow commissioner for information and strategy, Lagos State 2004, 2005. He is today the National Youth Leader of the Party.
