Security authorities in India have disclosed that a Nigerian arrested for drug peddling has stayed illegally in the country for about 17 years.

As he was arrested on January 8, this year, record shows that he had been staying in the country 17 years without valid immigration documents.

He was arrested with about 52 grams of cocaine which he was selling to end users as the trade was taking him to many nooks and corners of cities to carry out his illegal trading activities.

Police disclosed that as a peddler, he was  going about to meet his customers and delivering the substance to them at locations.

He would soon be charged with drug offences having been with large quantity of cocaine (about 52 grams) worth Rs.3 lakh, police said Tuesday.

Nwadike Ugo Ben was arrested Jan 8 from Gandhi Vihar area in north Delhi, where he had gone to sell drugs to his bidding customer.

He had come to India 17 years back and had stayed in Jaipur, Varansi and Chandigarh before shifting to Delhi in 2008, police disclosed.

‘The accused revealed that he used to receive the cocaine from a fellow Nigerian, named Mark who resides in Mumbai.

In his statement, he disclosed to the Police that the drugs were sold only to reliable high-end users in Delhi,’ implying that he is far from major big time suppliers and godfather drug barons’ thread list.

“‘The quality of the cocaine is quite high and the amount seized is one of the biggest ever haul of cocaine in Delhi police claimed.

‘The accused did not have a valid passport or visa on him for his legitimate stay in India and has been trading in hard  drug since 2008,’ the officer added.

He is to be charged soon.
