Group declares ‘war’ against Nigeria as MEND plans massive bombings of nations oil deports
A major military onslaught has been declared against the nation as a group claimed to be MEND tell government of plan to bomb all oil installations in the country including petrol stations
LONDON: 18/01/2011
Nigeria is on the verge of a renewed civil disobedience with the nation currently facing another threat of violent attack from terrorists.
Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta,(MEND), the group that claimed responsibility for the Independence Day attack have sent messages across the nation warning that a major attack of the down stream oil sector of the economy is imminent.
The threat could be sending jitters across the country as the spotted venues of the attack are not always predictable.
A press statement signed by ‘Jomo Gbomo’, the spokesperson code for the organisation said it would commence a ferocious attack on Nigeria’s oil sector.
The organisation called for the immediate evacuation of areas where residents live very close to the depots storing petroleum products in order to avert human casualty and damages to properties.
The threat is likely to create fears and anxiety within the government circle considering the enormousity of the effect the bombings have had in the psyche of the nation.
Terrorist ferocious attacks imn recent times also have caused serious damages to oil installations across the country.
With the threat, petrol stations and areas where products are stored are being mentioned as targets.
The veracity of the current threat cannot be pushed aside considering the carnage bombings have unleashed on the nation in the past years and in the event of Nigeria 50th Independence anniversary attack which claimed the life of many innocent people just close to the celebration venue, Eagle Square, in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory.
However, it is being argued in several circles that the original authors of the current spate of violence could be politicians who have won the heart of some tear away members of MEND, serving them as feeders in form of finance backing and ammunition supply.
The argument however is being supported with the facts that major actors of MEND have continuously dissociated from the bombings.
There are also religious attacks in other parts of the country which attest to the facts that the current bombers are hiding under MEND canopy to soil more the image of the disarmed rights activists,
Few days after the Independence day bombings in Abuja, the well known leaders of MEND visited Aso Rock, the seat of power in Abuja to mourn with the nation and dissociate MEND from the Abuja bomb attacks..
Alhaji Mujahidin Asari Dokubo, Chief Government Ekpomolo (Tompolo), Ebikabowe Victor (Boyloaf), Chief Ateke Tom, Comrade Fara Dagogo, Shoot At Sight, Eberi Papa and Buster Ryme mourned with the nation by visiting President Goodluck Jonathan and emphatically dissociating from the carnage.
The visiting old MEND leaders came in the company of junior members of the old organisation, numbering about 90, to the state house to mourn with the nation.
Mr Ebikabowe Victor Ben (Boyloaf) told the audience their host, including Vice President Namadi Sambo and other top government officials, saying: “MEND is not responsible. We have disarmed. We say to the world, these people claiming they are MEND are impersonating. It is a terrorist act. The people responsible for the act should be dealt with accordingly.
“Jomo Gbomo does not exist. If the person handling the media sector has a problem and another person takes over so far he has the password of the email he can use the name of Jomo Gbomo and cover up as Jomo Gbomo. So, there is nothing as Jomo Gbomo; he does not exist.”
He also assured the government that ex-militant leaders are prepared to work with the government in the efforts to fish out the perpetrator of the act.
The erstwhile dissociated themselves from the October 1 Independence Anniversary twin bombing in the Federal Capital, Abuja, promising to work with the Federal Government to fish out the culprits.
The group also noted that Jomo Gbomo is a pseudo name used by anybody who has access to MEND’s password.
Many desperate politicians from the north last year threatened to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan if he contested for the presidential candidacy in the April election.
Jonathan defeated Abubakar Atiku in a transparently contested open ballot for the torch bearer for the ruling party in April election.
The former President who even lost in his State to Jonathan is yet to congratulate the President for the victory.
‘MEND’ Statement:
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) will soon commence a ferocious attack on the downstream oil sector of the Nigerian oil industry.
To avert avoidable loss of lives and properties, advance warning for immediate evacuation is hereby issued to residents in close proximity to depots storing petroleum products such as aviation fuel, diesel, kerosene, petrol, propane gas and engine oil.
We cannot guarantee the safety of staff that happens to be in the facility during an attack. We will also be targeting transport vehicles that convey petroleum products.
Anyone who chooses to ignore this warning does so at their own peril.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) has being following closely the activities of the Nigerian government in the handling of the arrest and detention of our respected brothers and will not sit back and fold our hands to see a government bent on eliminating them for no just course.
