Campaign 2011: ACN chieftains in near plane crash in Bauchi state as Ribadu, Tinubu escape death.

Lucky Escape: Adeola, Tinubu, Ribadu

A major national tragedy was avoided on Tuesday afternoon as some eminent Nigerians escaped death when the Aircraft in which they were travelling crash-landed in Bauchi, Bauchi State capital of Nigeria.

Action Congress Presidential candidate, a former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Mr. Fola Adeola, Ribadu’s running mate and some other chieftains of the party were on Tuesday thanking their luck as they escaped death after one of the aircrafts in which they were travelling to Bauchi for a presidential rally crash-landed at Bauchi Airport.

A chartered airplane conveying Adeola and chieftains of the ACN, including its Deputy National Chairman, Boss Mustapha; and a former National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Yusuf Alli, crash-landed due to non-clearance of the airport runway by airport authorities.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo.

The runway, which had been taken over by rams and goats, was not cleared, forcing

Meanwhile, the second aircraft conveying Ribadu, Tinubu and some other party leaders had to hover in the air for about an hour for the runway to be cleared risking petrol shortage and other possible mechanical default in the process

The General Manager, Public Affairs of the National Airspace Management Agency, Mr. Supo Atobatele, confirmed the incident, saying the crash-landing of Adeola‘s plane was caused by some rams that strayed onto the runway as its landing gear (tyres) made serious impact on touching with the runway.

He said Tinubu‘s aircraft, which was following Adeola‘s plane, had to hover in the air for an hour as a result of the incident.
