Mikel Obi’s father, rescued from abductors now joins family in Jos
Mr. Michael Obi, father of English premier soccer league star, Mikel has returned to Jos to rejoin his family after his rescue from kidnappers on Monday morning.
An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi told SR that the police is currently searching for the owner of the building in Kabuga quarters where Mr. Obi was kept after his abduction from Jos on August 12 2011.
Five suspects including a female, Nkechi Ossai have been arrested by the police. Others include Ifeanyi Essien, Jacob Cowen, Ndubusi Friday, Basil Chukwuma and a citizen of Niger Republic, Sule Ibrahim.
Michael Obi, the father of Chelsea Football CLUB star, Mikel Obi was rescued from kidnappers by men of the Nigerian Police.
He was declared missing last week Friday, August 12, 2011, after family members reported to the Nigeria Security that he had not been seen after leaving his work and refusing to arrive home.
The football star appealed to the abductors last week begging them to get in touch to enable the authority to establish their angers against the old man.
According to the Nigerian Police, Mr Obi (Senior) was rescued on Monday from his abductors in the outskirt of Kano, Kano State in Northern Nigeria.
Police had promised Mr Obi would be leaving his secured haven in Kano on Tuesday to reunite with his family after what has been described a dare-devil rescue by men of the Nigerian police who set him free his abductors in Kano.
Mr. Obi had narrated his ordeal to SR over the phone from Kano where the commissioner of police in the state, Ibrahim Idris, said he had been kept in safety away from 5 of his abductors who were arrested during a assault on their hideout.
The commissioner of police said the kidnappers were arrested at Kabuga along the Bayero University of Kano road at shabby hideout having been traced with electronic gadgets.
Narrating his ordeal during a short interview with SaharaReporters Mr. Obi said he was kidnapped as he returned home from work on August 12 by five men riding in a Toyota Hilux truck in the city of Jos.
According to him, the kidnappers pushed him inside their truck and drove his car before abandoning it halfway. He said they then swapped the truck with salon car and drove him straight to Kano overnight.
The kidnappers finally let him make contacts with his family threatening that he was on his way to Lagos to be held prisoner until a ransom was paid to secure his release.
He expressed appreciation to the police for rescuing him and said he was surprised that the police could establish his whereabouts and rescue him. “I was shocked when the police came and overwhelmed my kidnappers”, Mr. Obi said.
Asked if any ransom was paid to secure his release, Mr. Obi answered emphatically that nothing was paid to the kidnappers.
The abductors:Nkechi Ossai, Ifeanyi Essien, Jacob Cowen, Ndubusi Friday, Basil Chukwuma and a Nigerien, Sule Ibrahim.
